Have you ever wondered if any of your college mates wander The Monestery? I know I have, and instead of msg'ing everyone out there, I would like to propose an alma mater or university monk tag?

Since this feature is for the Perl Monks Statistical Page it shouldn't effect the Monestary except for the fact that monks will add this tag to their homenode's. :)

    Have you contacted jcwren about your idea? :) He is the owner and maintainer of the stats page; whether or not this gets implemented is entirely dependent on his whim.

    Makeshifts last the longest.

      Yes. I /msg'd jcwren to take a look at this node and give his comments.

    Have to make sure everyone spells it the same way or uses consistent abbreviations, or the stats page won't colate them properly.

    I hope you'll set it up so that it can show all the colleges that I've dropped out of. (SF State, SF City, Peabody Conservatory)

     \"/

    Good idea, hiseldl! Can we use URLs of web sites to have consistent naming, John M. Dlugosz?

    I'd like to suggest, if this gets implemented, including a means of specifying the degree earned, if any. Then I'll have a second use for my own BA aside from "decorative wallhanging" ;)

    I like that idea a lot. Even w/o imposing on jcwren's time an agreed upon tag would be useful. The new super search is powerful enough to list everyone using the tag... of course searching for classmates that way would be a bit tedious.

    p.s. lets here it for the University of Pennsylvania

    Hmmm, I'm guessing that no matter what tag you use, I'm not going to find a lot of classmates from Université Laval hanging out here.

    I'll be happy to be proven wrong, though :)

    Here's a proposed format for the tag:
      <!-- alma-mater: university=url[; university2=url2; ...] -->

    And if we want to go all the way to include field of study, etc., we could use something like this:
      <!-- education: degree=BS;major=Computer Science -->

    disclaimer: jcwren has not approved nor disapproved of adding these tags yet.

    Update: added "=..." to degree and major.
