Started in IT in 1968, but it was called DP then. First machine was a KDF9, then a PDP8 and a DEC 10. Worked for various companies including ICL on George III then VME. Worked for various software houses on an RDBMS called Mimer - did the VME port and was UK support manager. Then worked on graphics products when I first saw UNIX and C in about 1981. Then I looked after the low-level interface of a financials product on UNIX, where I used C extensively, and also picked up awk (but the tablets cleared it up). Took over Windows NT development 'cause its just like UNIX, right? Oh, and I discovered Perl about this time (1997). I don't have a proper job anymore. I "work" for a training company (http://www.qa.com) teaching our favorite language (and some others I would rather not talk about). I get to do development when my employer isn't looking.

I have 6 modules on CPAN (author CLIVE) - most are Win32 on the principle that Windows programmers need all the help they can get. The only non-Windows module is app::sh2p, an attempt to take some of the tedium out of converting a UNIX shell s‎crip‎t to Perl (ongoing, probably for ever). Well, someone had to try.
