Part of the Voting/Experience System is installed. I still need to add the ability to vote in some places. Especially on user replies, after all people should be awarded for answering questions and helping their fellow monks out. I'll write up some guidelines I think will be helpful when casting your votes.

Let me know what you think, along with any suggestions or questions you might have.

Having a voting/experience system will be a good thing...I think the structure vroom's got now is going to be fairly okay at keeping down XP-whores and encouraging valuable community participation. But I also think that the real value of the site is that if a person asks a (well-framed) question, there is at least one answer posted even before the question gets to the gates. It's a faster and better way of getting information than newsgroups and IRC, and way easier on the ego than asking Tom Christiansen.

Which is why I support chromatic in the idea of extra rewards for good answers. I don't care about particulars of implementation, but I think it is important. Funny poll comments just should not be worth as much as excellent answers.

Another Experience Idea

What do you think about having the highest ranked replies bubble up to the top when viewing answers to a question? I think it's just a change to the note sort order routine (assuming reputation is stored in the note db). The tricky thing might be dealing with replies to replies.

    Two quick ideas:
    • Seekers could have double-points voting -- that way, they can reward the best answer to their questions. This would be tough for Anonymous monks, though.
    • Maybe Saints in our Book could list top number of nodes as well as highest experience. Dunno what nate would say about that, though.
Maybe someday I'll get a Perl Monks t-shirt with a picture of CowboyNeal on it. YIKES. Maybe the best noders should get jobs at BSI. I wonder if this shows the modified date?

I do like the new system. All the more reason to hang out here more.
I think that voting up questions that illustrate common faults is a good plan, as this will hopefully illustrate to new monks that their question could well have been answered already.
I'd also like a way to list all the scribes, all the abbots, etc...
Also, would it be possible to have the reputation of each node be displayed next to the node title on home nodes?

Done! Thanks vroom - I think this helps us in divining what out fellow monks find pleasing, and guide us in our quest for canonization.
