Infrastructure Operations Manager BSkyB - Sky Network Services - Information Systems Infrastructure Braham Street - Role may require some travel between Sky sites Sky Network Services owns and manages BSkyB’s IP network backbone and associated information systems infrastructure. As a part of Sky Network Services, the Information Systems department is responsible for Broadband and Telephony; specifically, service provisioning, service assurance and service delivery of the core ISP services. SNS IS works with other Sky Technology business units to develop the BSkyB technology strategy. It defines the detailed requirements for IT solutions and then delivers and supports those solutions. Key responsibilities will include: Managing operational support, system maintenance and system implementation activities across the two primary Infrastructure operations teams, Systems Administration (SA) and Database Administration (DBA). Systems support: * Manage and coordinate incidents and problems across the systems estate. System and platform maintenance: * Manage system maintenance and coordinate software releases across the estate. * Sequence maintenance work into iterations across several different hosting platforms. * Manage operating system patches and upgrades, database patches and upgrades and software packages and upgrades. * Manage the production of operational documentation. * Ensure company data governance and data protection policies are adhered to, work with the Assurance Manager and Systems Design to plan work to address the existing compliance issues as appropriate. * Ensure company security guidelines are adhered to, work with the Assurance Manager and Systems Design to plan work to address the existing security issues as appropriate. * Work to prevent occurrences of compliance breaches and security breaches. * Manage and maintain an accurate repository of the SNS system estate, ensure it is accurate. System implementation and platform implementation: * Project work will necessitate the growth of the systems estate and platforms; however, your role will be to prioritise the platform maintenance activities while working with the project managers and team leaders to ensure both needs are fully met. * Work with project management in order to identify risks, issues and dependencies associated with systems and database implementation work. * Look for and drive process improvements in the work allocation lifecycle. * Coordinate maintenance activities across other teams within SNS and the rest of Sky. Team and people management: * Act as a champion for the IS Infrastructure teams. Build solid relationships with them and spend time getting to understand their work backlog and their issues. * Regularly attend team meetings and coordinate activities with the Infrastructure Iteration Manager. * Build good relationships with the infrastructure team leaders and managers. * Maintenance, extraction, manipulation and analysis to support the continuous improvement and creation of new reporting * Taking business requirements and converting these into queries that can extract the required data * Presenting data in a format that is readily understood by the business consumers. * Writing detailed specifications (technical and non-technical) for DBAs and Data Warehouse analysts to obtain and maintain required data. * Help to identify gaps in the operational process and add reporting around it to prevent drop out * Performing statistical and root cause analysis to resolve any issues. * Ensuring the integrity, accuracy and delivery of business data extracted from various systems to support operational, regulatory and compliance reporting. * Ensuring that all processes, automation and SQL scripts are documented. * Ensuring timely and accurate compilation of monthly and weekly regularity reports to relevant stake holders. Successful applicants must have: * Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualifications * Extensive IT management experience in a highly technical environment * Demonstrable background in computer infrastructure * Experience with one or more business/industry sectors – Communications industry desirable * Experience of capturing risks and issues * Experience in co-ordinating and engaging across teams * Committed to all aspects of people and team performance * Strong communication skills with the ability to develop present and defend recommendations * Credible to both IT and business users * Relationship management – ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with business users Our benefits package is designed to recognise the essential part you play in Sky’s success.
