SUBNAME may be a scalar variable name
    (unsubscripted), in which case the value provides
    the name of (or a reference to) the actual subroutine
    to use.  In place of a SUBNAME, you can provide a
    BLOCK as an anonymous, in-line sort
    subroutine.
