    Most scientific data formats have headers in them, (eg. FITS, GeoTIFF). I don't deal with earth images, but you'll probably want to locate the FGDC compliant metadata for the images to determine how to register it, if they're not already in a format that includes that information as headers.

    If you need more information on the subject, the concept you're looking for is called 'georeferencing'.

    Determine the latitude and longitude of the reference points, and then use those to extrapolate the locations in the rest of the picture. Or try reading How (Not) To Ask A Question.
