julio_514 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi, I'm currently trying to install the GD libraries on my computer. I'm using Winxp with perl 5.8/active state. These libraries are not available through ppm. I've made some research and found that in order to have functionnal GD libraries, I also need libgd. I am quite noob with perl and I would very much appreciate it if someone could provide information on how to have functionnal GD lib intalled. Thank you.

Um, perhaps you missed a few repositories:

    GD

(you may need to add theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/ to your repositories)

I always used to hit problems like this before when ActiveStates repository didn't contain the ppm I needed. That was until I discovered kobesearch.cpan.org (Thanks Randy).

CPAN have provided this great search resource for finding ppms, although they don't seem to mention it. Also in my opinion, ActiveState should link to it for any ppm they don't have.

    That link again:-

Thanks for your help! I did not know about kobesearch.cpan.org... I realized that I did not mention in my message that I wanted to use GD::Graph module, not only GD... I also continued to do some research on my own and I found the solution (or should a say a solution). Here it is: you type the following in cmd: ppm install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/GD.ppd ppm install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/GDTextUtil.ppd ppm install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/GDGraph.ppd ppm install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/GD-Graph3d.ppd ;)
