Hi Perl Monks

I have been introduced to PERL very recently. What makes me strange that PERL can be used for performing various tasks, right from botany through mathematics, statistics to zoology. Many calculations which require several hundred hours in Windows Excel sheet can be accomplished in just 7 or 8 seconds using a perl script. So, a question always pricks up in my mind: Is there any opportunity for earning money by writing perl scripts for genetic analysis, molecular biology etc. for those (persons or companies) who need such scripts for scientific research and development? I searched for such information in Google but I failed to catch any reliable information. May I request the perl monks to throw some light in this matter or to provide atleast some links which provide information about earning money writing perl script on demand. I am sorry for asking this question. It may not be the appropriate platform to ask this question on money-making using perl. But I believe that "Seekers of Perl Wisdom" is the best place to get the reliable answer on any question related to perl. So, I have posted this question here. Moreover, I faced this question twice from the college students of biology but I could not give them a satisfactory answer.
