Donesh has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello, I am trying to convert a bunch of .EMS pictures into smaller .jpg pictures. I know I can do this with Image Magick, if they werent .EMS type pictures. Does Perl have any other modules other than Image Magick that can do this? Or is there a way to get Image Magick to work with EMS files? I was looking on their web page, and it mentions ghostscript to use EMS files, but it didnt look like this would solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Donesh

What program was used to create these EMS files? You don't happen to mean EMF, EMZ, or EPS files, do you? The reason I ask is that, in my trade as a graphic designer, I don't recall the 'EMS' format in any other program I've worked with. Neither Photoshop nor the MS Office programs seem to know what they are.

Sigh...Yeah, I mean EPS files. Sorry for the confusion.

It looks like ImageMagick (available at CPAN) supports EPS files, but I haven't tried installing it. It looks like a bear of a module, but you /may/ be able to install it without needing to compile a binary via hack-and-slashing the module code. EPS files are tricky since they can basically handle just about any other kind of data. Corion's node may have more information.

If it were me, and I couldn't get imagemagick or another lib to work, I'd probably resort to using Photoshop's automation techniques. Sorry I can't be of more help...
