Since you are using Win2k, I highly recommend ConTEXT. Not only is it an awesome perl editor (syntax highlighting, auto-indent, bracket matching, etc.), but it's also an awesome editor for about two dozen other programming languages too (same features). It's been absoultely invaluable to the work that I do. And the best part is that it is free ;)

    Vim and Emacs, also free and probably the two most widespread, are available for Windows as well...
