It may be worth noting that, although Larry, Tom, and/or
Randal imply in 'Programming Perl,'
Edition 2, 1996, p. 363 that they
have high hopes for Penguin
(even hinting that it might become part of the
standard Perl distribution):
- The most recent version of Penguin is dated
May, 1997.
- The FAQ and README from that release make Penguin
sound like very much a work in progress.
- There appears to have been no release addressing
the deficiencies mentioned in the brief docs that
accompany the 1997 version.
- Edition 3 of 'Programming Perl' completely
reshuffles the material in
Edition 2, chapter 6 where Penguin was mentioned.
In the process
it appears all mention of Penguin in edition 3
has been dropped.
FWIW
