Is the blib structure always the same ?

syphilis has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi,
I know that the directory layout of perl itself varies for different platforms and architectures, but can the 'blib' that EU::MM creates when building a specific module change from one platform/architecture to the next ?

For example, when building PDL on MS Windows, Basic/Core/pdlsimple.h gets placed in blib/Lib/PDL/Core.
Will it necessarily go to the same blib location when building on a different platform ?
I'm hoping it does ... and that the across-platform differences in the installed PDL layout are attributable solely to differences in Config.pm specs.

Does anyone here know ?

Yes, in 13+ years I've not seen it change, except for the addition of sharedir Also, see http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/history/HEAD:/lib/blib.pm and http://perl5.git.perl.org/perl.git/blobdiff/49624702b850ce75f102fc7902be1ca451941985..HEAD:/lib/blib.pm, it hasn't changed much since 1996	[reply]

G'day Rob, I've tried that on Mac OS X. That file gets placed in `blib/lib/PDL/Core`. Note that's `lib` not `Lib`; although, Mac OS X ignores case in filenames so it will find it in `Lib`, `liB` and any other combination. However, when forced to choose, it does pick `lib`: `ken@ganymede: ~/.cpan/build/PDL-2.006-av7kS3 $ ls -l blib/[Ll][Ii][Bb]/PDL/[Cc]ore/pdlsimple.h -r--r--r-- 1 ken staff 1453 28 May 18:37 blib/lib/PDL/Core/pdlsimpl +e.h` [download] (note it picked `Core` over `core`) My perl and OS: `$ perl -v This is perl 5, version 18, subversion 0 (v5.18.0) built for darwin-th +read-multi-2level $ uname -a Darwin ganymede 11.4.2 Darwin Kernel Version 11.4.2: Thu Aug 23 16:25: +48 PDT 2012; root:xnu-1699.32.7~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64` [download] -- Ken	[reply] [d/l] [select]

Note that's `lib` not `Lib` Actually it's 'lib' for me, too - and I think that will be universal. (Typo on my part.) Once you get further down the tree from 'blib/lib', the case should be the same as specified in the source distro ...
