From your description, it seems likely that you are tackling the problem the wrong way. But with you current single threaded solution and your proposal for multi-threading it.

To get a proper appraisal, post the code you are currently using and tell how big is the master list? ( In lines and bytes.)

Also, were did you get the term "work crew" from?
