    I think your question meant which links are valid or not valid. Active or inactive is a different animal altogether. To check if a link is active you would need to store a copy of the HTML file and compare it against a known sample. If there is a difference over time, then the link is still active. If there is no difference, the current download matched the control, then the link is not active.
