Scanning through the Google results of "Accord al3 file format" I draw the following (probably incorrect) conclusions:

  1. It is ACORD not Accord?
  2. The al3 format is proprietary to ACORD members and not available to the public.
  3. It is some kind of XML format.
Please tell us if this is correct or whether I am on the wrong track.

If it is correct, then you will find a lot of information on processing XML files here on PerlMonks.

    I probably found the same references you did, but one impression that I got was that, while it's not an XML format, there are tools available (for a price) that will convert it to XML. (ACORD al3 library)

    Yes, you're right, it is "ACORD" not "Accord" typo. The information you all got, its what I also found. I just thought that someone here had worked with this kind of file before. I hope there was a Perl module out there to parse these .al3 files. I know for a price that there is software to convert it to XML, but my goal is to use Perl.
