There is no spin. I can't stop you seeing it if you believe it's there. But it is not there.

If it were possible to have a straight conversation about Perl6 -- rather than a "straight conversation (for some definition of the word straight)" -- then I might have gotten on-board; but that hasn't been possible since pugs was frozen out to death.

    The spec leaves this up to implementations. I just confirmed with jnthn that Rakudo/Parrot currently, and has always, used coroutines. A few days ago Sorear implemented the relevant NQP ops for continuations on the JVM with the explicit plan to use that to implement gather/take on Rakudo/JVM (I'm guessing this month). I always thought Niecza used coroutines, but jnthn just said he thinks Niecza uses continuations. (Niecza supports coroutines, continuations, and threads so Sorear may have chosen to implement gather/take based on any of these. I just browsed the gather/take Niecza commit and... can't tell :))

    "Pugs frozen out to death?" The lead dev, who had been staying up all hours to push it forward, discovered she had a life threatening illness that was hugely exacerbated by stress. One day she suddenly stopped posting on #perl6.

    Audrey continues to pop up occasionally on #perl6. She is always helpful, fun, inspiring. She has kept Pugs building to this day and Coke has kept testing it against the spectest suite to this day. #perl6 LOVES audrey. Pugs has not remotely been frozen out. But volunteers need to work on it. It has some serious problems, but if you, or anyone, comes to try work on it I assure you you/they will be very warmly welcomed.
