What we *really* need is a way to inform the search engines about spam links *and* have the search engine vendors automatically start "deoptimizing" spammy links. Then we could put up a "Spam" section and let them kill themselves.

However, until search engines give a good interface for marking spam, it's just a pipe dream.

    It seems really tough to make a system like that that couldn't be abused, however.

    As long as we're pipe-dreaming, some sort of AI that can accurately identify spam without human input would be even cooler! I would think that Google already has some rudimentary form of this...
