I was AOL Instant Messengering a perl regex to extract the non-package -qualified subroutine name from caller()'s output:

my ($ret) = ( (caller(1))[3] =~ /.*::(.*)$/ );
and AOL turned the :( part of my regular expression into a frowning face.

You woulda had to have been there to laugh as much as we did.
