in thread Why does PERL5LIB need to be so verbose?

Yes it is....

ha, ok:)

Because its configured that way, Config, installstyle, installprivlib, installvendorlib, installsitelib, ExtUtils::MakeMaker#INSTALLDIRS, https://metacpan.org/module/RJBS/perl-5.18.1/INSTALL
http://p3rl.org/INSTALL#Installation-Directories
http://p3rl.org/INSTALL#Relocatable-INC
https://metacpan.org/module/INSTALL#Coexistence-with-earlier-versions-of-perl-5

Me, I use the easy way these days , unarched, unversioned

$ perl "-V:install.*" installarchlib='C:\citrusperl\lib'; installbin='C:\citrusperl\bin'; installhtml1dir=''; installhtml3dir=''; installhtmldir='C:\citrusperl\html'; installhtmlhelpdir=''; installman1dir=''; installman3dir=''; installprefix='C:\citrusperl'; installprefixexp='C:\citrusperl'; installprivlib='C:\citrusperl\lib'; installscript='C:\citrusperl\bin'; installsitearch='C:\citrusperl\site\lib'; installsitebin='C:\citrusperl\site\bin'; installsitehtml1dir=''; installsitehtml3dir=''; installsitelib='C:\citrusperl\site\lib'; installsiteman1dir=''; installsiteman3dir=''; installsitescript='C:\citrusperl\site\bin'; installstyle='lib'; installusrbinperl='undef'; installvendorarch='C:\citrusperl\vendor\lib'; installvendorbin='C:\citrusperl\vendor\bin'; installvendorhtml1dir=''; installvendorhtml3dir=''; installvendorlib='C:\citrusperl\vendor\lib'; installvendorman1dir=''; installvendorman3dir=''; installvendorscript='C:\citrusperl\vendor\bin';

Compare to the (simple) versioned/arched style

$ C:\perl\5.14.1\bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\perl.EXE "-V:install.* +" installarchlib='c:\perl\5.14.1\lib\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread'; installbin='c:\perl\5.14.1\bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread'; installhtml1dir=''; installhtml3dir=''; installhtmldir=''; installhtmlhelpdir=''; installman1dir=''; installman3dir=''; installprefix='c:\perl\5.14.1'; installprefixexp='c:\perl\5.14.1'; installprivlib='c:\perl\5.14.1\lib'; installscript='c:\perl\5.14.1\bin'; installsitearch='c:\perl\site\5.14.1\lib\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread'; installsitebin='c:\perl\5.14.1\bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread'; installsitehtml1dir=''; installsitehtml3dir=''; installsitelib='c:\perl\site\5.14.1\lib'; installsiteman1dir=''; installsiteman3dir=''; installsitescript='c:\perl\site\5.14.1\bin'; installstyle='lib'; installusrbinperl='undef'; installvendorarch=''; installvendorbin=''; installvendorhtml1dir=''; installvendorhtml3dir=''; installvendorlib=''; installvendorman1dir=''; installvendorman3dir=''; installvendorscript='';
