90,000 files will take more than 2 hours that’s true. I was comparing gzip task with unlink task. I will update scripts as suggested by you all. I will also check the bench mark as suggested by kcott. Thanks.

Zipping a file will generally take more time than deleting it, often much more time, especially if the file is large. But this has nothing to do with Perl, this will also be true if you doing it manually under your shell (or under Windows, for that matter).	[reply]
