Perhaps something like gitk or git-gui (from the git core distribution) would be a starting point.

LOL. You have ESP MidLifeXis. I was just thinking that I should probably have mentioned that I was aware of git-gui. As (at least on my platform) comes with git, as an option to build, along with git itself. The only thing about git-gui, is 1) It has only a limited set of commands available. 2) It uses Tcl/tk, which IMHO has an ugly widget set. gitk, also uses Tcl/tk, and was what git-gui was built upon.
