Nonsense. Lilypond isn't exactly pretty, but in my experience with it (years ago), I never had to drop into Scheme to typeset ordinary music. But to address the OP's question, if you can get at MIDI-format data, there's MIDI to convert it into Perl data structures.	[reply]

Just because lilypond is programmable doesn't mean you must program it. (Same applies more-or-less to LaTeX.)	[reply]
