There's a number of built-in modules that you could use for these various tasks. Here's a selection from the File:: namespace that seem to be the most relevant (you may find others to be useful):

• File::Find - Traverse a directory tree
• File::Compare - Compare files or filehandles
• File::Path - Create or remove directory trees
• File::Copy - Copy files or filehandles
