I just installed 'Math::Pari' on AIX 5.2 and I got:

perl5.12.2 -MCPAN -e 'install "Math::Pari"'
...
/usr/local/bin/make install -- OK
[download]

It installed several pre-requisites but all worked okay.

That said I would recommend installing 'gcc version 4.2.4' and building a Perl at or above 5.12.2. I haven't had much luck installing CPAN modules on AIX with the IBM compiler and the Perl build by IBM. Note: Please don't install Perl 5.10.x.
