It is not just for Windows. It is for *nix, too. I have a network of computers all sharing Linux desktops... If I were sharing a router's console, I'd run Linux on a cheap box, run a serial line to the router, start a terminal emulator on Linux and share that window with VNC. That is likely cheaper than a dedeicated hardware solution, for example. (In fact, I will be doing just this in a couple of weeks to share a router config session.)
