CPAN and /dev/tty

marvi has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi!
At the web hotel I use I get an error when I try to use CPAN. Anyone know what's wrong?

hotel[~] > perl -MCPAN -e shell
Cannot open /dev/tty for write<br> at /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0/CPAN.pm lin
+e 102.
