Sometimes, it just depends on perspective. Is caffeine the focus of attention or is perl?
If it's caffeine, then perl is (or can be) a tool to get more caffeine.
If it's perl, then caffeine is (or can be) a tool to get more perl.

For some reason it really bothers me to see a saint avoiding a perl module to use a system call...

I could not get the module to work for me at all. It seems to be WinNT-aimed, and the documentation for it was poor, and I had no idea what arguments to send the functions. As it turns out, I've abandoned the project entirely, since it was just for "fun", and someone else has produced a far better program that I already use.
