TraderX has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm working on a project that I hope can be done in Perl What I was wondering is there a module available that can allow a secure data transfer to be opened between a host and a client machine similar to that of Secure FTP but not exactly the same as secure FTP? Thanks!

Thanks. I checked it out though and I noticed that it mentioned that it would only work on solaris and/or a linux box. I'm using a win2k for this project since I have to also have this interact with MS-SQL server.

i assume you dont want someone sniffing your transfers. is it possible to encrypt the source data, then decrypt it at the other end?

of course this wont work for session initialisation. If youre after sniffer protection why not use a VPN?. its not perl, but more than likely more sensible, with the overhead of being more complicated to impliment.

come to think of it, dosnt pgp offer a vpn of sorts?
