Which module are you using? Many modules provide the ability to check for status. It would be easier for people to provide sound advice if you show an short example which illustrates your problem. See also How do I post a question effectively? and PerlMonks for the Absolute Beginner.

    Put this at the very beginning of your code before anything else

    BEGIN {
    $| = 1;
    open (STDERR, ">&STDOUT");
    print qq~Content-type: text/html\n\n~;
}
