Hello all, I've downloaded Perl 5.6.1 on www.perl.com
and am currently fiddling my thumbs together,
feeling rather quite stupid. lol

I have windows 98, PIII, 128 ram.
I need someone to tell me exactly how
this jungle of files I have downloaded
are to fit in this language called Perl.

I have tried for 3.5 hours, now, really,
and am at my wits end.
God, how I need a beer. ;)

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Antoine

Perhaps you'd better download a more Windows friendly distribution, like ActivePerl...

For a bunch of extremely useful UNIXish tools (including another distribution of Perl itself), try Cygwin.

Get a pre-comiled binary with an installer. I suggest you get ActivePerl from Active state here http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Downloads/ActivePerl/. You will want the MSI so just click on that. You will also need the Windows MSI Installer that Microsoft did not ship with Win98. You can get this from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=17343

Install the Microsoft Installer by double clicking on it. Install ActivePerl by double clicking on the package. Follow prompts like any other Windows install. Welcome to Perl!

    Cheers

No worries. Have a look a New Monks which is a node I wrote with heaps of useful stuff on it for those new to Perl and the Monastery.
