For future reference, typing the name of a Perl function in the search box at the top of all PerlMonks pages will usually take you to a nice page describing their syntax and purpose. chown is no exception.

That said, I'll add one interesting thing that I don't see in the link to chown - If you use -1 for the UID or GID, it will leave it unchanged. That's rather nice when you only want to change one or other (as I have had to do a few times). According to Camel 3, though, this is only on "most systems," and I don't know how many "most" is in this case. But it should work. :-)
