malbie has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm on a linux machine and use xterm windows. I use cshell but have tried bash and ksh and get the same thing. When I run my program in debug mode my keystrokes are not echoed back to the screen. I'm basically blind typing in commands. I don't have any other issues like this with any other programs. Only when in /usr/bin/perl -d I'm perlexed or perplexed... nobody else I know is having issues. Environment issue? tty, stty issue? Something is not set right. Thanks for your help, malbie ------------------------------------------------- This is the start of the program in debug mode. Which is really weird... I cut and pasted here. The cut and paste shows the DB<1> n command... I can't see the "n" on my monitor. But it shows up in the cut and paste... Weird. > run_program Loading DB routines from perl5db.pl version 1.39_10 Editor support available. Maybe suffering from buffering ?

    Try to set $|=1 .

    Just a guess, you didn't really provide much information...

    Cheers Rolf

      I tried this in the program text. I also tried this in debug mode. It didn't really do anything.

    Did you try 'reset'? And maybe post the output of 'stty -a' (not sure if that's a Perl's issue, though)

    Your stty settings look fine.

    perldebug has this:

    "ornaments" Affects screen appearance of the command line (see Term::ReadLine). There is currently no way to disable these, which can render some output illegible on some displays, or with some pagers. This is considered a bug.
    So maybe you encountered this bug. The doc says something about readline, so maybe try
    $ PERLDB_OPTS=Readline=0 perl -d myprogram.pl

      Yeah, That didn't work either... I thank you for tring.

      Maybe there is nothing I can do at this time.

      Thanks again, Mike
