prk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

{ 'module2(' => { 'source' => [ '.akjsdk', '.qahwgd' ], 'dest' => [ 'ajhsx', 'uiahs' ] }, 'module1(' => { 'source' => [ '.akjsdk1', '.sjkdhs11', '.qahwgd1' ], 'dest' => [ 'ajhsx', 'ajhdj', 'uiahs' ] } };

I need to compare each and every dest of one module with the other every other dest of other modules and print the corresponding source port, if dest[0] of module 1 is ssame as dest1 of module 2 then i shouldprint the message as source[0] of module 1 is connected to source1 of module 2, and there can be n modules so the comparison has to be dynamic pls help

    Instead of comparing each dest of each module with each dest of any other module, just create a hash of dests and store which modules use it. Then, if the resulting hash has more than one key for a dest, they correspond to the connected modules. I stored the indices in the inner hashes for easier retrieval of the corresponding sources:
    #!/usr/bin/perl use warnings; use strict; use feature qw{ say }; my %h = ('module2(' => {source => ['.akjsdk', '.qahwgd'] , dest => ['ajhsx', 'uiahs'] }, 'module3(' => {source => ['.x', '.y'] , dest => ['z', 'uiahs'] }, 'module1(' => {source => ['.akjsdk1', '.sjkdhs11', '.qahwgd1' +], dest => ['ajhsx', 'ajhdj', 'uiahs']}); my %connection; for my $module (keys %h) { for my $dest_index (0 .. $#{ $h{$module}{dest} }) { my $dest = $h{$module}{dest}[$dest_index]; undef $connection{$dest}{$module}{$dest_index}; } } for my $dest (keys %connection) { if ((my @modules = keys %{ $connection{$dest} }) > 1) { say "Connected:"; for my $module (@modules) { say "\t$module $h{$module}{source}[$_]" for keys %{ $conne +ction{$dest}{$module} }; } } }
    map{substr$_->[0],$_->[1]||0,1}[\*||{},3],[[]],[ref qr-1,-,-1],[{}],[sub{}^*ARGV,3]

    Instead of <p>{....the sample data...}</p> you should have used <code>{....the sample data....}</code> so that you would get code formatting instead of paragraph formatting. Code formatting leaves [...] constructs alone, whereas paragraph formatting attempts to turn them into links. See Writeup Formatting Tips.

    As an example, This is enwrapped in code tags: <code>$foo[$bar]</code>. And this is not: $foo$bar. See the difference in how they're rendered?

    Can you post the code you've started with so we can assist you in massaging it into a workable solution?

    See Access and Printing of a HASH OF HASHES in perldoc perldsc. That being said it almost feels like there's a bit of an XY problem and you might could look into Graph or the like (e.g. GraphViz and have it draw a picture for you).

    Edit: Tweaked wording.
