syphilis has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi,

For the last 2 or 3 days, whenever I try to browse to http://search.cpan.org I get (almost instantly):

The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable.
Please try again later.
(port reminder 9080)

Are others able to reproduce this ?
Does anyone know what it means ?
How temporary is "temporary" likely to be ? ... weeks ? ... years ? ... millennia ? ... the lifetime of the universe ?

I tried connecting to http://search.cpan.org:9080 but that just times out.
I'm getting the same message on both IE (Windows 7) and Firefox (Ubuntu-14.04) - both of which connect through the same router.

Anyway, I'll just have to change my IE home page from search.cpan.org to search.metacpan.org.

Cheers,
Rob

"search.cpan.org" is many machines, using geolocation DNS to direct you to a close mirror (I think). So whatever mirror you get, it seems to be stale/unavailable.

Rob, that was happening to me all day yesterday. Today it is fine for me.

Today it is fine for me

Still the same problem here. Maybe it's a mirror issue.
If I can be bothered, I might try to find a way to switch mirrors. Not sure how to do that while I can't connect to search.cpan.org - I guess it might be do-able via cpan.org.
      Otherwise I'll just use metacpan.

      Thanks guys.

      Cheers,
      Rob

I strongly recommend that you disable javascript for cpan.org.
