    Sure, but the beauty of Annocpan was that it didn't require any action on the part of the dist maintainers or indeed anyone other than the annotator. It was a great system.

    I've seen trivial documentation PRs hang around for years either because the maintainers forgot or couldn't be bothered or had effectively abandoned the whole package. There's also the possibility that they might think the PR to be without merit and simply reject it. Annocpan was different - TIMTOWTDI and now one of those ways has been lost, probably forever.

      I don't know when or why it stopped being a thing, however couldn't you roll your own with AnnoCPAN, or add the functionality for logged in users of metacpan?

      This is very true, and sometimes the developers of something are too close to the project to understand why end/casual users may benefit from such minor changes. With this in mind when I find a PR I think would be helpful to others I do +1/Thumbs up thing against the PR, at least that shows that other people agree with the PR in principal.

        The why is alluded to in Re: What's up with AnnoCPAN?. The archive suggests it stopped sometime in late 2018 or early 2019. Given the domain renewal is in March then I'd go with March 2019 as effective end date.

        Probably, given enough time and enthusiasm. The latter isn't such an issue.

        I tried previously to help out with some aspect of metacpan but the barrier to entry proved insurmountable. If time ever did permit it would be a case of rolling my own. It'll go on the to-do list next to the roll-my-own cpanratings. :-)
