It means this

my $x = f();
my $y = $x;

can be written as

my $y = my $x = f();
[download]

and

my $copy = $str;
$copy =~ s/\\/\\\\/g;
[download]

can be written as

( my $copy = $str ) =~ s/\\/\\\\/g;
[download]
