If the script has a very low start-up cost/time, then I'd go with #2 and set cron to run it very frequently. Every 2 minutes, or perhaps every minute.

The startup time is negligible and it doesn't really matter as the script will be the only thing running on the device other than the OS. There will be an updater so I can remotely update the script but that will run in the early hours of the morning so it doesn't interfere with anything else...	[reply]
