I think you are spot on...
For too long I've shied away from Linux but this Raspberry Pi project has forced me to face it head on with a lot of help from the Monastery and from the Great God Google. There is no mystery - just a steep learning curve and I am slowly piecing together the knowledge of the tools that make that ascent manageable.
