not sure about that, I think in absolute numbers it's still the same person(s) creating sockpuppets.

It's just that the serious questions are getting relatively rare.

Not sure how much the competition by SO and Reddit matters.

I fear that we have few serious beginner questions because we have very few serious beginners. Most of the questions you refer to come from people who find themselves forced to maintain a perl program. They really do want a code writing service. Should we discourage them? Bill	[reply]

My motivations are more complex: If I reply it must be challenging for me and I try to "troll" them into showing at least minimal effort and understanding by only providing semi complete pieces.
