Warning: PerlMonksFlair now links to a porn site

I had a link to this on my home node:

Overnight, ++Cristoforo advised me: "Someone linked your `perlmonksflair` link to a porn site!". I immediately removed that paragraph. I'm reasonably certain that I've seen similar links (e.g. http://www.perlmonksflair.com/<monk_name>.jpg) on other monks' home nodes; they may also exist on non-PM webpages including, potentially, $work websites.

It looks like the author, gideondsouza, was maintaining this up to, and including, 31-Jul-2017; that is also the last time he visited PerlMonks. I suspect ownership of the domain expired and was bought by another party (just guessing, though).

I'll add a link to this post on "perlmonksflair.com : get your perlmonks flair!"; however, given the length and popularity of that thread, my addition may not be particularly prominent. Perhaps gods, janitors, or other cabal members with appropriate permissions, might consider adding a large, bold warning to the top of the OP.

I've added a warning as a header line to perlmonksflair.com : get your perlmonks flair! Optimising for fewest key strokes only makes sense transmitting to Pluto or beyond	[reply]

That is a sad but all too common development. I suspect ownership of the domain expired and was bought by another party (just guessing, though). The WHOIS confirms it: `Creation Date: 2022-01-01T19:24:07Z` 🦛	[reply]

I have just learned that the (original) owner of that domain, our gideondsouza, lost his battle with cancer in December 2018.	[reply]

G'day Rolf, That's interesting; thanks for the info. Either I did see others and they've been removed; or, I'm possibly confusing home nodes that have similar images (e.g. Athanasius). Anyway, they still may exist on non-PM sites possibly causing embarrassment, "please explain" questions, or even a more severe response from the sites' owners. — Ken	[reply]
