I am inviting all Perl Monks and other Perl contemplatives to help support the idea of a Science Perl track at the upcoming 2024 NA Perl Conference (in Las Vegas).

Maybe you have already, but I think you should focus on hunting down the people in academia or research that already use perl for data science, and try recruiting them to come to the conference. Especially any that might never have even thought about attending a Perl conference. While I find science topics interesting, my day job is all about web apps, so I'm likely to attend those if forced to decide between competing talks.

I have no idea where you find these people, other than maybe spreading flyers around research buildings in college campuses.

Great thought. I am also going to hit up the IRC channels.

There are also mailing lists dedicated to PDL and BioPerl which might be worth a post.

I'm interested in science--I'm actually a certified biology teacher. However, it is highly unlikely I'll have opportunity to be anywhere near Las Vegas next year.

      Blessings,

      ~Polyglot~

The list of monks who aren't interested in science would be a hell of a lot shorter.
      Thank you!

The seed of this idea was launched (as far as I know) in one of the Slack channels on the Perl Foundation's Slack workspace during TPRC held here in Toronto in JUL-2023. A nucleus of interested people have assembled lists of people, software tools, and relevant Perl-driven websites that we know of (as suggested above).
