Re: Congratulations to the winner of a new copy of Perl 6: The Community's Rewrite of Perl!

Wasn't the latest name of Perl 6 "rewritten" to Raku to avoid Perl's bad reputation?

LanX, given the brand new O'Reilly book in the photo appears to be Perl 6 Essentials (published June 2003), I suspect EvanCarroll accidentally made his post ten days too early.

Update: Perl 6 Essentials (books.google.com link)

There was a substantial discussion about this, not long ago, when the giveaway was being planned. I thought it was here (on perlmonks) but I can't find the discussion now...

Given that over one third of EvanCarroll's posts here have a negative rep, I suppose you're right, and "fooling" is part of the concept.

Someone else had a similar response, so I've learned something. Next time I'll wait until the week after April Fools. However, I'm not joking. I really did give away this book, and Colby really did win it.

No, it was renamed, way way way too late, to stop tainting Perl's reputation. About 14 years too late. Maybe more.

That ... thing should never have been assigned a version. It should have been a project with its own codename right from the start. :-(((
