I don't understand the purpose of doing this. But here is what you could do: Simulate the pressing of CTRL+T which opens a new browser tab and then send a keystroke CTRL+F4 to close it. It works in Windows from JScript using Chrome-compatible web browser. Should work from Perl as well.
