Recently, I've switched to localhost:8765/, as I can't access the site from home, but I can from work, so I have to run an ssh tunnel to my work machine I connect through it.
For those interested, the trickiest part is
ssh -f -L $port:$server:$remoteport $user@$machine -N
map{substr$_->[0],$_->[1]||0,1}[\*||{},3],[[]],[ref qr-1,-,-1],[{}],[sub{}^*ARGV,3]

I'm logged in as me at .org, and as my ascended form at .com, which is most of my activities these days.
I also have a login at .net of a very low level user, which I use for testing purposes.

With thanks to pryrt and their post Re^2: poll ideas quest 2025 that helped flesh things out!
I use perlmonks.org because the .com name seemed too establishment for a community about an open source language. And .net didn't sit right. I also skip the 'www' at the beginning because all of the cool kids know that's just a DNS entry, and Ya Don't Need It. :)

For a long time, I had a link in my .sig going to Groklaw. I heard that as of December 2024, this link is dead. Still, thanks to PJ for all your work, we owe you so much. RIP Groklaw -- 2003 to 2013.

Ah, the magic of subdomains and CNAME entries. Here's a nice one for the monastery, just to have fun with not using "www": http://pm.ru.gov.mil.org.us.eu.tv.ru.nospam.org.js.py.exe.zip.cav.ac/
Ok, true, it's a pain to use, because cav.ac enforces HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security) and obviously the monastery doesn't have the correct certificate. And i hazard a guess that all the uncool windows kids with badly written "security" software have to deal with a dozen warning popups right now ;-)

Somewhere along the line, I decided I wasn't that interested in the other sections, so I got in the habit of using https://perlmonks.org/?node=Seekers of Perl Wisdom. Given the low level of traffic around here these days, though, perhaps it's time to change that and start going to the Gates instead. | [reply] |
I usually go for ?node_id=479 because I have a feeling it responds much faster for whatever reason...
