hippo, looks like we're in for another exciting Ashes, with Australia out Bazball-ing England at their own game in the opener.

Though common in the 1880s, that's the only Ashes test I can remember to finish inside two days.

WTF, it happened again in the Boxing Day fourth test at the famous MCG!

I've only just about recovered from that laughing stock of a series. Nobody in the England camp other than Root and Archer can hold their heads up after such a showing, but one great batsman and one good but injury-prone bowler won't cut it, I'm afraid. The side has enough technique but nowhere near the temperament to play a test series against a top opponent. Far too much white ball nonsense.

Even a test that finishes in two days can be thrilling and good sport but only if it has been won by quality bowling and not lost by laughable batting.

The only thing worse than the performance of the England team was that of Snicko. It was better than nothing when it came in but this series has shown just how flawed it can be, particularly with poor (or no?) calibration. Let's hope for Ultraedge instead in future.

Last one was 104 years ago - 1921, at Trent Bridge. (You might be a bit too young to recall it ;-)

    Cheers,
