"Honestly, you folks spend f-a-r too much time self-assured that I know not what I am talking about, in every circumstance"

If you don't know what you're talking about, why post a reply? You continually assert the fact that you know what you're talking about, time after time, regardless of how many times you are corrected the same incorrect advice is posted. You are aware that you don't have to post. Your incorrect, punctuation laden posts, full of quotes that nobody said do more harm than good, to those seeking help and (IMHO) the perception of this forum.

If your intentions were to do something, then you should have mentioned that in your original post. If you intended to speak to the general case, then you should be talking about pipes, not system. But this statement that you made: "Some commands are built as ffpmpeg specifically is, but a great many are not." This just seems, generally speaking, misleading.

Virtually all (if not all) commands take in STDIN and emit STDOUT and STDERR. Some programs do not need to use these standard streams, but that is beside the point: for this thread ... piping in-memory data to another program via its STDIN is the general case.

Perhaps you should only reply when that reply actually has something to do with the question at hand? Nobody cares about "the general case", because it has nothing to do with OP's question specifically about ffpmpeg. Honestly I get the impression that you like to hear yourself talk more than provide any helpful insight.

It's simpler than that. The one thing he is exceptional at, is proving that he knows nothing that has been of any use since the 1970s.
