"Fore" and "Aft" are used on aircraft, too, and thus might be more familiar than "bow" and "stern". But I think this is excellent. You might name your rotation operators on the same basis - ISTR that spacecraft call them "yaw", "pitch" and "roll". I think it's the same at sea.
