    For me, the reasons for going with a MacBook Pro back in 2013 are listed below.

    The 8+ hours of battery life is the main reason.

    A UNIX-based OS for the host OS. I like Parallels Desktop for running virtual machines. The other options are VMWare Fusion and Oracle Virtualbox.

    The iTerm app is awesome. The retina display which makes fonts look sharp also reduces stress on the eyes.

    Having 4 "true" cores is helpful, especially when testing the MCE module. All in all, have been pleased with the MBP.

      I know lots of people are very happy with Apple products; they're just not for me.

      An example of my reasoning is. I recently wanted to retrieve some stuff off of some 128MB 3.5" magneto-optical cartridges I had since the days of Yore. I still had the drive, and adapter, but the latter is Parallel ATA. No good in my machine with a SATA interfaces.

      But I went on line and found this SATA/IDE adapter (for a third the price that Apple charge for an adapter so that you can use last years Apple peripherals with this years model). Two days later I can take a stroll down memory lane reading code and stuff I wrote circa 1995.

      You can't do that with Apple's disposables.

      True. But as I told Karl, "It's also where marioroy's examples defy my analysis; because his system has the fastest IO rate I've ever seen.".

      I know my machine is relatively slow, but your numbers looked like magic until we got to the discussion of your 1GB/s capable SSD; at which point things made sense.

      As I said before. Impressive hardware performance. (Just a shame about the other stuff:)
