This implies, and even encourages the view, that downvotes are bad, and therefore people who use them are bad.

What are you talking about? It does exactly the opposite. It gives users the ability to backup a claim that they don't downvote. Ostensibly, because they think it's bad.

It gives users the ability to backup a claim that they don't downvote. But what purpose would that proof serve? None! Down voting is an inherent and legitimate part of this site. Claiming (or proving) that "I never downvote"; is nothing but a strawman designed to legitimize complaints against others who do make use of this site facility, and to justify calls for its removal. The provision of a facility to bolster that strawman argument, do not serve the needs of the 99% of monks that use this place in accordance with its stated rules.	[reply]
