eidolon has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

hi , i am new to this place but i came here because i want to learn pearl.Right now i have no knowledge of it but i hope i will get help here. The most important thing now is to find out what i need. i use win - who can tell me what do i need to start ? i mean is there an IDE for win or something like this ? I know this is a lame question but i searched all over and you can get dozens of tutorial on this subject but none will tell you how to actually start. any help on this subject is highly appreciated. thank you

    Try going to ActiveState and downloading perl.

    For editing, notepad will do fine, but there are a large number of free programmers editors out there that may make your life easier with syntax hilighting etc.

    My favourite editor for the Windows environment is SynEdit - it has modules for (alomst) any programming language you care to name.

    If you want an IDE I'd suggest Open Perl IDE. ActiveState also have an IDE, called Komodo, which you can try before paying for it. I found Komodo way too slow and buggy though...
